“Hemp CBD for the whole you” — at your best and your worst, touched up or #nofilter.

Prima product lineup

This appears to be the promise of Prima CBD, which produces “wellbeing essentials” from broad spectrum hemp extract, including skincare products, topicals, soaps, and ingestibles, all of it with “good vibes guaranteed.”

The company frames its mission as an “uprising rooted in hemp, heart and real science,” that seeks to “take a stand” against the ever-increasing stress points in our daily lives.

Like many uprisings, the company also has a “manifesto” on its website, which consists of a series of affirmations that cascade down the screen, encouraging visitors to “lose yourself” and just take it all in.

Prima describes itself as “wellness advocates, science enthusiasts, and changemakers with a deep respect for nature — and a firm belief in its ability to bring us back to balance.” This intersection of wellness, good vibes, and science can be seen in the leadership of the company, which includes in its ranks Founder and CEO Christoper Gavigan, the bestselling author of “Healthy Child, Healthy World,” Laura Angelica Myers, the former head of brand strategy and product development at the Honest Company, and Jessica Assaf, an entrepreneur and activist with an extensive portfolio in the beauty and cannabis industry.

Prima uses a “family owned, multi-generational” farm with “organic quality and sustainability” that it says are second to none. This unnamed farm is located on the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon, arguably one of the most beautiful areas of America. The farm also employs “zero-waste cultivation techniques” among other regenerative agricultural practices.

Prima touts the “advanced genomic mapping” used to breed its hemp plants, which are feminized and picked for their high concentration of CBD as well as cannabinoids like CBG, CBN, CBC, and CBDA. The oil is extracted from the hemp using CO2 supercritical fractionation, which, according to Prima, remove waxes, chlorophyll, pollutants, and THC. The end result is “a broad spectrum of cannabinoids in combination with polyphenols, terpenes, sterols and flavonoids.”

The company that Prima uses for extraction uses an FDA-registered, GMP-certified facility located in New England, and has more than 30 years of experience in C02 extraction.

Prima has an online glossary of dozens of ingredients that it “consciously” chooses to use in its products.

Packaging & Branding

According to its own self image, Prima is more than a CBD company, it is “an uprising rooted in hemp.” Like any successful uprising, its leaders understand the importance of imagery, and on the Prima website visitors are treated to a color scheme, vibe, and sensibility that screams “spa day at a spa where they are REALLY passionate about spas.”

The message seems to be one of empowerment, of envisioning a world where you can seize the initiative and have agency over the “stressors of all kinds” that are making our lives so tough these days.

The spiritual leaders of Prima assert that we are in a “radical tipping point in history,” where humanity must rise up against the noise and stress that is destroying nature and our lives, and take up arms (in this case, CBD lotions, oils, and supplements) against the dying of the light.

This is all pretty heady stuff (even without the “manifesto”) but there’s a lighter side to it as well. The company promises “good vibes, guaranteed” and believes that wellbeing is about how you want to feel, and the fact that you (yes, you!) can make it happen on your own terms.

What’s clear is that Prima is devoted to the cause of wellness, and also transparency. It has one of the most detailed websites in the CBD industry, and provides an extensive overview of products, ingredients, manufacturing and testing processes.

Who is Prima targeting? The messaging appears to be geared towards women, in particular those who care deeply about their own wellness and believe wholeheartedly that it doesn’t have to take a backseat to their career, society, their boss, or anybody else.

Transparency and Lab Results

Prima makes a point of highlighting its transparency, which is part of what it describes as a “vow of honesty.”

What does this vow entail? A promise “to be honest with you. It’s simple and may even sound mundane. But in an industry overrun with false labels, magic pills and asterisks, we’re here to deliver it to you straight.”

This straight talk manifests itself in one sense through the third party lab results which customers can access on the company website by punching in the batch number printed on the product. According to Prima, each batch undergoes potency testing, terpenes profile testing, microbiological contamination testing, mycotoxin testing, heavy metals testing, adulterants testing, glyphosate residue testing, and residual solvent testing.

Prima Bath Gem

The company’s products are tested five times throughout the supply chain, including raw materials validation, during extraction, before batching, in process, and testing of the finished product.

This “radical transparency” is part of the company’s vow to make sure customers “know exactly what is inside.”

The company has a restricted chemicals list which it says includes more than 2,800 chemicals, ingredients, and materials that the company chooses not to use, and all of them are listed on the Prima website. All of the raw ingredients in the products are printed on each package.

Customer Service

With customer service as well, it should be noted how much time Prima has devoted to filling its website with information about products and ingredients.

The company also has a chat window online where you can send a note for assistance, and there is also an email address where customers can write them company. Customers can also text “Prima” to a dedicated phone number for assistance. Prima also has a very extensive FAQ section where customers can turn to for information.

Also, if you don’t get good vibes from the company’s products, you can return your order within 30 days for a full refund.
