Sunday Scaries Review

We’re a serious CBD company for folks that don’t take themselves too seriously.

That’s one of the taglines of Sunday Scaries, but you might have gotten a hint of the light-hearted approach from the company’s name.

Sunday Scaries seems tailor-made for people who are new to the world of CBD, and its voice is geared heavily towards the Instagram crowd, who maybe went too hard on Friday and Saturday and are really feeling it on Sunday (hence the name).

As the company’s founders say “We’re Mike and Beau. We’re two bar owners, turned CBD advocates, who believe nature and humor are the best medicine. We founded Sunday Scaries for one reason only: to help you chill the f*ck out so you can enjoy your life.”

How do Mike and Beau expect you to chill out and cure the Sunday blues?

The founders share their own personal CBD regimens online, which makes generous use of the company’s CBD oil, CBD tinctures, gummies (regular and “vegan as f*ck”).

The brand also makes CBD candies, energy shots, and bath bombs, all of which are meant to help customers “get your chill on 20 minutes later.”

And while they don’t make any medical claims, in keeping with FDA regulations, the website does state that CBD can help with “calming the mind, work pressure, increased productivity, resetting equilibrium, and dating problems.”

Can CBD help your dating life? It probably can’t hurt, they say.

Sunday Scaries Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Very fun
  • Appeals to millennials
  • Unique products
  • Money back guarentee
Cons
  • Not very transparent

Materials, Ingredients and Manufacturing Process

Sunday Scaries prides itself on sourcing all of its broad spectrum CBD extract directly from farms in the United States, which adhere to the 2018 Farm Bill and are regulated by “the states’ Agriculture Departments.” All of these farms are within Colorado, close to the supply chain partner in Denver where the hemp is tested, according to Sunday Scaries.

These standards “require our CBD to be clean and pesticide free,” Sunday Scaries states, adding that all of the farms they contract use best practice processes.

All of Sunday Scaries’ products are GMO-Free and Dairy-Free, and include no preservatives. The company’s CBD gummies include ingredients like pure cane sugar and coconut oil. And while they pride themselves on using all-natural stevia as a sweetener, their “unicorn jerky” (CBD candy) does contain corn syrup and artificial flavors and colors (as well as palm oil).

Sunday Scaries’ “YOLO shot” caffeinated energy drinks (made for “getting in the zone before crushing it at the gym” or “breaking the ice during a networking event”) includes caffeine, taurine, and ginseng, though the company does make a point of joking that “no bull semen is included.”

Their popular “TubCub” gummy bear-shaped bath bombs are made with coconut oil and lavender, peppermint and italian lemon essential oil, as well as CBD oil.

Sunday Scaries  does not state on its website what kind of extraction method it uses. A company spokesperson did inform Green Valley Nation that the company’s method is cold ethanol extraction, which, alongside CO2 and lipid-based extractions,  is among the traditional methods in the cannabis industry.

Packaging & Branding

Judging by the packaging and messaging, Sunday Scaries is definitely targeting the young (and youngish) lifestyle crowd, with a look and vibe that seems built for Instagram. Sunday Scaries backs up this vibe with quality ingredients and transparent lab results, but it also makes a point of not taking itself too seriously.

This comes across in the product descriptions — like the CBD gummies — which Sunday Scaries says are perfect for “accepting your questionable weekend decisions” and “realizing not everyone is vacationing all the time on social media,” among other everyday struggles. The target audience seems to be those among us who like to say “I enjoy life and I’m confident and capable, but also not ashamed to say sometimes I can NOT deal.”

This can also be seen in the images on the website — which include a patio party full of good-looking people who look like they were born well into the 90s, bottles of CBD gummies spilt out on the table for sharing. And at the bottom of the homepage? Ten images of beautiful young men and women (mainly women), who love life and have a look that screams “no pre-existing medical conditions.”

With the YOLO energy drink, the target audience is those who are “getting in the zone before crushing it at the gym,” “pregaming with the squad,” or “cramming for your finals.” It’s a collegey sort of messaging, but these are energy drinks after all.

Sunday Scaries is also incorporating social distancing in its coronavirus-era messaging, with “Cabin Scaries” specials for people who need “isolation and chill,” or to “work from home with focus” and “relax while distancing.”

Does this make you feel old? A little uneasy? There’s a CBD gummy for that.

Transparency / Lab Results

The independent, 3rd party lab results for each of Sunday Scaries’ products are easy to find on the company website. These certificates of analysis are unfiltered, highly-detailed, and include itemized cannabinoid and terpene profiles. They also show the amount of THC (zero) and moisture, among other parameters.

The company prides itself on being intimately involved in every step of the production process, from the hemp farms they use in Greeley, Colorado, all the way to its supply chain partner in Denver where the products are tested. Curiously, the lab results state that the testing facility is in San Diego.

Sunday Scaries states that it requires all of its farmers “to prove there are no metals or pesticides in the biomass that is supplied.” The brand does “full panel tests on the raw materials to ensure zero residual metals or pesticides exist in the contracted form,” according to the Sunday Scaries website. The lab used for processing is GMP-Certified, Kosher-Certified, and ISO 9001-Certified.

At the manufacturing facility (which is not mentioned by name), the products are carefully shrink-wrapped and shipped directly to customers.

Sunday Scaries has a 100% money back guarantee (“chillax or your money back”), so if customers have any issues with the products, they can always fall back on that.

Customer Service

On Sunday Scaries contact page, there is a search bar where people can easily find prompts for the information they need.

If your question doesn’t come up, there is a customer service email you can turn to, as well as a chat box. The support chat box isn’t all that smart though. When the question “are you organic” was entered in by this reviewer, the first option was “Kiki, do you love me,” which led to the chorus of Drake’s 2018 hit “In my Feelings.”

Sunday Scaries Support

The next results had nothing to do with organic food — or hip hop — and included “Can I eat these gummies and drink or smoke pot,” and “can I take Sunday Scaries if I am breastfeeding or pregnant,” among others.

That said, the website does have an extensive FAQ section and a lot of informative videos for review.

Bath Bomb to help you chill out and relaxThe Bottom Line

Sunday Scaries has put a great deal of serious work into hemp sourcing and product testing — but that doesn’t mean they take themselves too seriously. This is a company whose ethos and products revolve around enjoying life for the sake of it, and using CBD to help cope with the weekday grind and the raging on the weekend — and recovering to do it all over again. Sunday Scaries is right at the intersection of wellness and lifestyle, and seems to be having a great time while they’re at it.
