Balance CBD Tincture
I ordered Bloom Farms Balance CBD Tincture, which is the brand’s lowest potency oil with just 300mg of full-spectrum CBD extract in a 30ml bottle.
In addition to Balance, Bloom Farms offers three other formulas: Relieve (600mg), Recover (1200mg), and Dream (1200mg 1:5 CBN:CBD).
Overall, my experience with this product was very positive; however, I wish that I had ordered a more potent formula to review, since 300mg is quite low (just 2.5mg per serving).
That said, I highly recommend this brand in general and I would personally love to try the more potent formulas so that I can fairly gauge the results.
How to Use This Product
Tinctures are a tricky business and require some degree of knowledge or even a bit of research to understand how to get the best results.
Fortunately, Bloom Farms offers a very detailed and user friendly how-to guide on its website, as well as its packaging, outlining the following steps:
- Shake: Because they have different weights, the coconut oil and CBD may slightly separate between uses. Simply shake to restore the suspension.
- Measure: Use the included dropper to select proper measurement. Pull tincture into the dropper to the indicator line for a ¼ ml serving.
- Deposit: Place tincture under tongue, being careful to keep the dropper clean. If taking more than one serving, deposit only ¼ ml at a time.
- Relax: Allow to absorb for 30-60 seconds. Activation may take up to 45 minutes; however, sublingual delivery may result in immediate onset.
- Repeat Steps 3 and 4 as needed to achieve desired amount
- Store: After use, seal tightly and store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. The included duster bag will keep the bottle clean and secure in a drawer or your carry-on.
While this is a very useful guide (and a lot more details than I have seen other brands provide), I have a few issues with the recommendations.
I think Bloom Farms is mistaken to recommend a 30-60 second absorption under the tongue. As a molecular biologist and a cannabis expert, I recommend allowing two full minutes for the oil to absorb under your tongue. This is called “transmucosal” delivery, and will give the best results. With the very small dosage offered in the Balance tincture, this means that in order to get 10mg of CBD (which I believe is a good starting point), a user would need to put at least 4 servings under their tongue for 2 minutes each, which would be very unpleasant.
This product has just two ingredients: 100% certified organic MCT (coconut) oil (Quality Assurance International), and whole-plant hemp extract made from 100% certified organic industrial hemp (organic certifiers). The hemp is sourced from responsible California farmers, including five listed on their site: Flatbed Ridge, Garden Society, Sunroots Farm, Heart Rock Mountain, and Le Foret. You can read about each of these farms on Bloom Farms’ website.
There are no additives or flavors, which I love. In my experience, it is rare to see a tincture on the market that does not have something else in it. Bloom Farms Balance Tincture is all natural and has an all natural flavor as well.
The entire 30ml bottle has 300mg of full-spectrum CBD extract, with just 2.5mg per serving. A serving size is ¼ ml (or ¼ of the dropper, which is clearly marked). This is a very low dosage, and Bloom Farms recommends the Balance Tincture for new users to make smaller, more precise adjustments to find their ideal amount.
Transparency & Lab Results
Bloom Farms does a great job with transparency, along with third party testing on all its products. The Certificates of Analysis (CoA) are available directly on the brand’s website. Better still – you can email them to get help understanding the CoA.
About the Brand
Bloom Farms’ website does not provide a lot of information about the brand, so I had to do a bit of digging.
What I found was that this California-based company was founded by Michael Ray who was raised on a ranch called Bloom Farms in the Sierra Foothill Mountains. Ray is a cannabis advocate, a lobbyist for social change, and an entrepreneur with a passion for technology and design. It seems like all of his passions intersected to create Bloom Farms: a cannabis-meets-design-meets-tech company based out of – where else? – San Francisco. Ray even recruited Sally Nichols, a pioneering investor and executive in the cannabis and hemp CBD markets, to be the company’s President of Sales, Distribution, and CBD.
One thing I loved about this brand was its commitment to food security. This is a true 1-for-1 company, which means that for every purchase of a Bloom Farms product, the company donates a healthy meal to a food-insecure family in America. According to the brand’s website, Bloom Farms has already donated over one million meals. Bloom Farms’ mission is “to bring safe and enjoyable products to people who use cannabis as part of a healthy, fulfilling lifestyle.” In addition, they are committed to removing negative social stigmas surrounding cannabis, and to sustainably farming practices.
Pros and Cons of Bloom Farms CBD Balance Tincture
The consumer experience with Bloom Farms was great. I didn’t have any issues that required me to have to contact a representative, so I don’t have too much to say here – but I guess that’s a good thing.
I ordered the Balance Tincture online, which was very easy to do. I immediately received a confirmation email with a tracking number. The product arrived within a few days, and I have since received a few marketing emails from the brand – but nothing too spammy.
If you do have an issue, there are many different ways to contact Bloom Farms. You can email or call a customer service representative directly. There is also an interactive map which shows all retail locations that carry Bloom Farms products. You can search by product (tincture or vapor), local delivery, local pickup, or online.
Bloom Farms also has a very informative “Learn” section on the website where users can get informed about all things CBD. There is also a Welcome Guide, a Glossary, and a Cannabinoid Usage Tracker available for download.
Packaging and the Unboxing Experience
Bloom Farms has clearly invested a lot into the customer experience, putting serious thought and effort into the look and feel.
First, the branding itself is really beautiful and simple. I received a nice linen (or maybe hemp?) bag to store my tincture, which I loved.
My product also came with a nicely worded letter pertaining to COVID-19, since I ordered during the quarantine. That felt really nice to get, and gave me the impression that this is a very thoughtful and contemporary brand that has put a lot of thought and effort into all aspects of the product.
But the best part is that I received two plantable cards with hemp seeds. The cards are in the shape of the Bloom Farms logo and have some information about their social impact and donating 1 million meals in California and Nevada. This was such a nice touch, and I can’t wait to plant my cards.
Bottom Line & Main Takeaways
In general, I liked this product a lot; however, I do wish that I had ordered a more potent formula to review. With just 300mg total, the Balance tincture gives just 2.5mg of CBD per drop, which really is not enough in my opinion. At the same time, it would be unpleasant to take more than that.
But aside from this, everything else was great. I loved the ingredients and the packaging. Next time, I would order a more potent dosage for myself (Recover) and recommend new users skipping over Balance and starting with Relieve (600mg). I would also like to try the Dream formula, with CBN and CBD.
