Bluebird Botanicals Complete is a full-spectrum CBD product with just over 250 mg of CBD that boasts both raw and heated cannabinoids and added terpenes. Bluebird Botanicals claims that this is the “most comprehensive hemp product” and is the very first CBD product on the market with a Glyphosate Residue Free certification. This lower concentrated, very herbaceous tasting product contains 4.2 mg of CBD per serving of about 15 drops (or ½ ml.) It’s a very effective lower-concentrated product that can help with inflammation and anxiety, if you don’t mind the flavor. Basically, it’s a little magical and very woodsy.

Pros and cons of Bluebird Botanicals Hemp Extract
From Boulder, Colorado to you, with love
Bluebird Botanicals was founded in 2012 in Boulder, Colorado and very quickly became a hemp industry leader with a large variety and selection of CBD products. Bluebird Botanicals has both full-spectrum and isolated CBD products with many varieties and potencies to choose from to best suit your individual supplementation needs. Although an American company with American-grown hemp (that is not certified organic), you can get Bluebird Botanical products outside of the US.
Bluebird Botanicals is serious about education, transparency, and quality control. With a near perfect score on its most recent cGMP manufacturing audit, US Hemp Authority Certification, and most recent Glyphosate Residue Free certification, Bluebird Botanicals is clearly taking steps to ensure great quality and safe products. Another bold move Bluebird Botanicals takes that I wish other companies would follow is to offer complete disclosure of all non-summarized test results available for each product. The results are listed by batch, easily displayed on both the product page, as well as a Batch Results page that’s easy to see right from the home page of the company’s website.
What is glyphosate residue anyways?
In 2015, the World Health Organization announced that glyphosate is probably carcinogenic to humans. It’s actually a chemical found in herbicides commonly used in farming across the US, like in RoundUp. I will be honest, I had heard there was a class action lawsuit about RoundUp but I never actually researched the information surrounding the case. After receiving this product and diving a little deeper into the Glyphosate Free Certification, I have to admit, this extra step taken by Bluebird is pretty awesome and makes me appreciate its attention to quality and dedication to purity. (It also really REALLY made me go through my pantry and get rid of a lot of my children’s favorite snacks — even despite their protestations!)
Bluebird Botanicals Complete entry level CBD supplement
I actually found this product for sale locally, a testament to the growing availability of CBD products readily available within my market (which is even in the Buckle of the Bible Belt. Not only does Bluebird Botanicals get all its products tested, it prominently posts them in multiple locations on its website sorted by batches, which are easy to find on the product bottles, unlike other brands.
Each bottle contains 60 servings and comes in a 30 ml sized bottle.

And the third-party test results say…
One of the coolest things that Bluebird Botanicals does is list every single test of its products, by batches. I mean, the company shows you its microbial reports (which all came back showing negligible amounts), all the results for heavy metals, mycotoxins, and pesticides (again, negligible amounts of these are found in the product,) but the BEST thing I loved about the reports is that they show the test results for both terpenes and potency. That means, you know exactly how much of each compound is found inside your bottle. Bluebird Botanicals uses a number of different third-party labs to perform all of itstests.
Bluebird Botanicals actually posts its results by batches. These results are then placed on the product page (mid-way down the page under the third tab labelled Test Results) and also made under a menu bar option labelled Quality Control, where you can also input your batch number. My batch number was 0381. Each batch number was really easy to read on the bottle and there’s also a QR code, which apparently I am too old to understand how to use (says my nephew and niece, since they had to show me how to use it.)
Bluebird Botanicals went through great pains to describe the importance of having both CBD and CBDa, not only on the main page of its website, but also on its product page. I wanted to see if the added effort of combining both full spectrum hemp and steam distilled hemp abstract actually contributed the same thing and on the Potency page, you can see that there are nearly identical amounts of each within my bottle. CBDa was 4.03 mg/ml and CBD 3.92 mg/ml. When you compare the levels of CBD and CBDa between my batch and the batch right after mine, 0389, you find CBDa is only slightly lower at 3.94 mg/ml and CBD is 3.9 mg/ml. The difference didn’t seem like it would be indicative of a change in plant quality. Keep in mind, there is a total of just over 250 mg of CBD per 30 ml bottle, so per dropper full, you can see that you’re getting just 8 mg of cannabinoids.
Since the FDA hasn’t come out and committed to the value of the different cannabinoids and terpenes in these products, it is up to you to do some homework on the emphasis you place on these compounds’ individual characteristics. However, early research suggests that terpenes alone can help to improve your mood and focus, and even relax you. The idea, therefore, is that when you include the terpenes’ beneficial qualities with that of the cannabinoids, you have a product that works together for your overall good.
Each terpene offers its own benefit, so when I researched the terpenes found inside Bluebird Botanicals Complete, I noticed that the most terpene inside this product was myrcene with 2300 parts per million. Myrcene is the most common terpene found in the hemp plant, and is also found in hops, lemongrass, and even mangoes. It has a sedative quality, but more importantly, in one article I found, this terpene can actually alter the blood-brain barrier, which allows more of the cannabinoids to make it into your brain.
What is the difference between CBD and CBDa?
Both CBD and CBDa are cannabinoids found within the hemp plant. CBDa is non-decarboxylated, which means that it is actually the raw version of the CBD molecule. CBD is created from CBDa (cannabidiolic acid) when the acid is effectively removed via the heating, drying, and lighting of the live plant – a process known as decarboxylation. Although the study of hemp is in its infancy, some people believe that CBDa can help increase the anti-inflammatory and anti-nausea properties of CBD.
My first taste of Bluebird Botanicals Complete
Checking out the packaging
Let me start this part off with saying that it is a pet peeve of mine how marketers have apparently zero education on visually impaired people. No, I’m not legally blind, but I am pretty near-sighted — my whole family is — and my mom is a vision specialist who has been workingwith blind or visually impaired people for most of my life. Maybe it’s because I grew up in this environment, or maybe because I do have really bad eyesight, but it is SUPER annoying to me how people think a light green background contrasts enough with white font to be legible by anyone without perfect vision. Legit, it wasn’t until after I had this product several days that I could even see the pretty little designs (also in white) on the bottle. The only thing that is clearly visible from a distance on the bottle is “Complete” in a dark blue font. “Hemp Extract” is in white and I frankly didn’t see it when the woman behind the desk was picking it out for me. She even had to look at the different bottles up close (they had different varieties of Bluebird) to figure out which was the Complete bottle.
Once you actually have the bottle in your hand to check it out, you can see things more clearly, with the batch number prominently displayed on the side (but it does wear off if you carry the bottle in your purse along with 9,989 other miscellaneous items.) The QR code is right beside the batch number for convenience. The label tells you that the serving size is 15 drops (which just makes me laugh because who can really feel 15 of those tiny drops hitting under their tongues anyways), or ½ dropper. The company does say you should not take more than 5 ml per day.
Bluebird Botanicals Complete has the strongest plant flavor I have had so far
Ok, so I know there’s a school of thought out in the hemp supplement world that natural is the best flavor (these people clearly have never had good chocolate), and that the more natural flavoring, the better it is. Their argument is that the terpenes (plant scents come from here) are present if you taste them. Bluebird Botanical emphasizes its belief in the important role that terpenes play in the entourage effect of its product by adding additional terpenes (i.e., natural flavors) to its product. Let me tell you, it is NATURALLY flavored. If eating pine needles and a little tree bark is your gig, then you will love this flavor, but, whoa nelly, this was a hard row to hoe for me, and I’m not usually a super picky flavor person in my CBD supplementation.
Supplementing with Bluebird Botanicals Complete
I am currently in the middle of what I will one day affectionately call “hell month.” My very young children only have 2 part time days of child care for the whole month (for summer break), I have a new semester of yoga teacher training starting, and my studio’s very first outdoor yoga festival. To say I am swamped is the understatement of the century. Well, the day I picked up my Bluebird Botanicals Complete, I had both kiddos in the car with a very good friend of mine (on a very hot Southern August morning) and we were about to pass out flyers for the yoga festival because that was the only productive thing I could think to do with both kids in tow. For my first dose, I armed myself with a full dropper of the Bluebird Botanicals Complete because, no matter how good this stuff is supposed to be, I knew 4.6 mg of it wasn’t gonna be enough for what was about to happen.
3 hours, 2 cranky and hot children later and at a restaurant with a breaking down 2 year old, I realized, perhaps this stuff was legit. My daughter was running around the restaurant like a banshee and my son was having a toddler temper tantrum like people make fun of on tv, and I was sitting at the table happily eating my veggies & tofu stir fry while their chicken with noodles stir fry got cold. If the other restaurant patrons wanted to say something, I must’ve had that “I dare you look” because no one even so much as gave me eye contact.
This stuff was green gold.
Efficacy of Bluebird Botanicals Complete over time
I’ve been using it throughout the day for several weeks now, and it still has this effect. I can stay calm and focused and I do not want to pull my hair out (which is good, because that would look bad.) It isn’t strong enough to keep me asleep at night, even with a full dropper full. It definitely helps me to fall asleep but it’s not strong enough to keep me asleep, so I have found that I need an additional, slower release product to help me stay asleep.
Bluebird Botanicals Complete wins
Bluebird Botanicals, hands down, is my favorite company to review so far. I appreciate its dedication to quality, safety, and transparency. I think some of the other bigger named brands we’ve reviewed could certainly learn a few playground rules from these guys in that regard. The Complete is a lower-concentrated product, which is generally good for me, and the recommended dose of ½ ml is fine for me during the day. Although since I’m under a TON of pressure these days, I’ve been taking my CBD supplement upwards of three to four times a day compared to my typical one to two. I don’t believe this is indicative of the Bluebird Botanical potency, I believe it’s a direct result of my life at the moment.
Bluebird Botanical Complete losses
This stuff legit tastes like I went out into a North Pacific forest and decided to dine on the pine needles, both fresh and decaying on the ground, mixed with bark and a little moss, and lightly seasoned with the dirt under my boot. It is N-A-T-U-R-A-L. Some people like that flavor, more power to them. I will not invite them over to cook for me. The product simply does not taste good, and that not-so-wonderful flavor stays with you. I mean, a while. I tried to see how long until it went away and 30 minutes later I was drinking water because I couldn’t take it anymore. Bluebird Botanical also needs to work on its color scheme. It’s really really hard to see what the product is and I feel really bad for visually impared people if I am struggling.
Let’s recap Bluebird Botanical complete
Value of Bluebird Botanical Complete
If you stick to the dose suggestion of ½ ml dropper (because I refuse to try to count out 15 drops, period), you can get 60 servings from one bottle. This is a full spectrum, specially formulated product that has nearly equal parts of both CBD and CBDa and added terpenes that work towards improving the product’s overall entourage effect. Since it is lower concentrated, it’s a great product to start your CBD supplementation journey because the barrier to entry is reduced significantly from more concentrated products.
