CBDMEDIC is combining pharmacology and nature
CBDMEDIC combines traditional products found in over the counter pharmaceuticals like menthol and lidocaine with natural ingredients like hemp extract and essential oils to create topical products that can help to reduce pain and improve common skin conditions like eczema and acne. The company also choose not to use any steroids, synthetic fragrances, petrolatum, artificial dyes, parabens, or phthalates. All the CBDMEDIC products are used topically for pain or skincare and several products are now available at CVS stores.
CBDMEDIC claims to have over 15 years of pharmaceutical R&D. It uses this experience to create products that are geared mostly towards pain like the CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint Cream being reviewed here. The company also has other products, all topical, that seem to be a bit more specific like a natural cream for joint pain, or neck pain, foot pain, and even massage oil. However, CBDMEDIC also has a skincare line that is directly serving people with eczema, acne, and even a product to help with itches and rashes.
Let’s try to learn more about CBDMEDIC
CBDMEDIC is a bit more cloaked in its corporate history, with the “Our Story” page geared mostly towards educating the consumer about the company’s focus on natural ingredients found in its products, which was nice, but also not very educational about the company. It claims that its Muscle and Joint Cream will not make you fail a drug test, but on the FAQ page, it sorta contradicts itself by saying its products may contain as much as 0.3 percent THC.
A quick education on THC
Tetrahydrocannabinol 9 (THC) is a cannabinoid (one of over 100 different types found inside the industrial hemp plant). THC is the chemical compound responsible for the high or intoxicating effects of marijuana. Oftentimes, when you look at CBD products and their respective reviews, it can be confusing on what the different labels are in respect to the absence or presence of THC.
The most common nomenclature found on CBD products with respect to THC is “zero THC,” “THC free,” and “full spectrum.” Zero-THC is when the product actually contains 0 percent THC, like a CBD isolate or a broad-spectrum product. In these cases, the THC will be undetectable in the COA. THC free is a term used for products who have less than a minimum of 0.3% (or 0.2% in Europe). This can also be known as a full spectrum product.

CBDMEDIC test results in a nutshell
On the side of the package is a QR code that takes you to a test results page. You can also find the test results on the bottom of the website. When you click the QR code or batch link from the website, it takes you to a site that lists all the products, so you scroll to find the CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint Cream. I did not have a batch number on my box, but only two were available as well as a Certificate of Conformance.
MCRLabs performs the tests for the CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint cream, and it is located in Framingham, Massachusetts. The test results revealed that THC was non-detectable and the product had 4.84 percent CBD and 0.03 percent CBG in the #9024 lot. In the other lot, #9142, 5.99 percent CBD was present, 0.05 percent CBN, and 1.3 percent CBG. This made me think I really wish I knew which batch I had because I’d obviously want the higher CBD percent batch. I guess it’s a mystery that will have to be left unsolved.
Curiously, the terpene profile was only listed for the first lot, #9024, not on the second lot #9142. I definitely want to know what the different terpene levels were in the second lot, especially since the second lot tested higher for CBD and more cannabinoids in general. The most concentrated terpene in #9024 was ocimine. In early studies, ocimine has been shown to help reduce inflammation, antifungal, and antiviral
Things to keep in mind when reading test results
This brings up a good point about reading the test results. 1) It’s good to check the differences between batches because it does make me feel like I can get a glimpse at quality control when I see pretty large differences between batches or lots. 2) It makes me feel like I can get to know the company better when reading the results. Since CBD supplements are still new to the market, a standard reporting practice hasn’t been established.
This means companies technically don’t even have to show their test results (but reputable companies will), and the test results they show will vary in actual clarity and comprehensiveness. I appreciate companies that are super transparent and offer more comprehensive test results; it makes me feel like they have nothing to hide. I did notice a difference between batches with one batch having ND (non detectable) amounts of one type of cannabinoid (CBN) with another batch that showed 0.05 percent (total CBN). Admittedly, this difference highlights the fact that hemp is a plant with varying amounts of chemicals relative to each batch, and I appreciated that CBDMEDIC disclosed everything.
What it’s like to use CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint cream
Packaging of CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint cream
I got this supplement specifically to review it, and honestly, it couldn’t have come at a better time. I was in the middle of planning my studio’s first major event and the stress was bringing up old injuries like a summertime family reunion brings out the best of the relatives. The package arrived quickly, in about three days, and came in a bubble-wrapped envelope. The CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint Cream comes in a white box with light and dark green lettering, which contrasted strongly against the background so it was easy to see.
Inside the box, you’ll find ten packets that are about 2’’x4’. Online, CBDMEDIC says that each packet can be used two to four times, but the box the packets come in says the packets are single servings. I used my CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint cream on my hip and one packet lasted me four applications easily.
When you first open CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint be sure you are seated
You want to be seated when you open this puppy up because, let me tell you now, it has a STRONG scent. The menthol and camphor may knock you off your feet if you’re not expecting it. Imagine your grandfather’s medicine cabinet right after he vacates the shower.
CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint cream definitely works
After I picked myself up off the floor from the smell — just kidding — but I was having massive sinus problems that first day and the smell helped to clear out otherwise clogged up sinus cavities (special thanks to the CBDMEDIC folks for that one!) I opened the packet and the cream looked sorta like a triple antibiotic cream — it’s almost clear and very thick. I only used a little on my hip to see how far it went, I would guess about the size of a dime. This covered my whole front right hip which was really bothering me at the time.
Immediately, I felt the effects of the menthol and camphor, creating a cooling sensation on the area, but the pain was still there. In about 30 minutes, I noticed that the pain in my hip had subsided quite a bit. I still could feel some pain, but it was reduced enough for me to know that the product was definitely working.
Over the course of the next several weeks, I would bust out my CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint cream on my sore spots. Since this has been an incredibly stressful time for me, it felt like I had sore spots popping up all over. A little of this product would go a LONG way, with a dime size covering my whole shoulder and on my trapezius muscle or the same amount covering my whole right hip. Depending on the day and severity of the pain, the cream would take away all or most of the pain.
The problem was, every time I used the product, my neighbor smelled it. No, I’m just kidding, but yes, anyone in close proximity knew what I had done. This stuff has a very strong scent that lingers. It’s not like something that wafts away quickly since this cream is heavy and thick, I think it stays on top of the skin longer and that keeps the smell there. It is pleasant if you like to smell like muscle rub. Otherwise, I wouldn’t put it on before a date.
Top reasons to use CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint cream
I like that a little bit of this product goes a long way. I was able to use just a couple of packets over the course of a super busy week because each packet allowed for at least four uses. Granted, I wasn’t taking a bath in this stuff (it smells too bad for that), but the packets inside the box do last quite a long time. I like that there are no unnatural ingredients or mineral oil. I have super sensitive skin, so natural products tend to be easier on my skin. I didn’t get any strange breakouts when using this product (although I never put it on my face/chest.)
My top three complaints about the CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint cream
This stuff smells. It smells a LOT. Like it smells of old people and cheap cigarettes (you know the cigarettes with menthol in them?) I know menthol and camphor are great analgesic products, but whew, you have to be committed to using them and not caring if it knocks your neighbor out because it’s so strong. The packets, although travel-friendly, are hard to manage because you can’t close them back up. I have small children. They love to touch everything, especially if it’s stinky. I’m sure you can see where this is going. I also don’t love the fact that CBDMEDIC, as a company, doesn’t actually tell us much about itself. I love to hear the story about a company like the Endoca Brand, which is another brand I reviewed for Green Valley Nation and was the first brand to sell CBD online. I feel like CBDMEDIC didn’t want to disclose much about the business and I don’t know why.
CBDMEDIC – value for money
With 150 mg of non-THC CBD, the CBDMEDIC Muscle and Joint cream come in a little above market for similarly concentrated products. However this is not just a CBD supplement, it also includes other pharmaceutical compounds like menthol and camphor so that does help to explain the higher cost. A little of this muscle rub goes a long way, so with a higher price point, at least you know it will last you a while.
