Lit face oil by Kana is a premium natural product that helps to hydrate your skin with the benefits of argon, grapeseed, macadamia, jojoba and of course hemp seed oil expertly blended with wonderfully smelling essential oils like Lavender and Frankincense to provide a natural, glowing complexion. Each time you use this oil, your skin will look like it is “L I T” up (and it’ll feel super soft too). The glow is from the omegas 3,6, 7, & 9 found in the proprietary oil blend.

The glowing results of mixing Korean Skin Care with CBD

Kana Skin Care is a U.S. based company headed by an American woman of Chinese-Korean descent. You won’t find any CBD tinctures or ingestibles of any kind with Kana Skincare because it is a strictly CBD infused beauty product line, combining the science behind Korean skincare with the benefits of CBD. Only the best chemists and formulators were employed in this new company, including 3 Korean skincare experts. This powerhouse CBD infused beauty line was launched and Kana Skincare became the very first CBD skincare company in the U.S.

These products are proudly 100% natural, cruelty free & vegan. Although the website doesn’t have much information about the company, you can see that besides this L I T face oil, Kana carries nighttime moisturizing masks, botanical essences and face care kits. You can learn more about their products and corporate history if you reach out to customer service. It took me just over a week to get answers to my questions, although the Facebook Messenger customer response with order related questions is much quicker.

The mystery of what is actually inside Kana’s L I T CBD face oil

The mystery of what is actually inside Kana’s L I T face oil

On the bottle, you’ll find a list of ingredients that are definitely natural, but curiously, you can’t see if there is any CBD actually in the product. The list of ingredients sounds lovely, but the fact is, you really don’t know what the deal is with the product, which espouses to have Omegas 3,6,7 & 9. These essential fatty acids are great for the skin, but any product that is based off so many different nut and seed oils will contain these super hydrating Omegas. You really just can’t tell what, if any thing makes this a cannabinoid product from the box or the bottle.

It was only after sending in an online information request that I was told you get 100 mg of CBD in each bottle of L I T. Curiously, you also don’t have access to the Certificate of Analysis reports online to tell you if it is a full spectrum or isolate CBD product (even though a lot number is located on both the box and the bottle). In order to see these reports (and Kana Skincare requested that we keep these reports private), you have to contact customer support via their website. Again, this information took me a week to receive.

The Mysterious Certificate of Analysis for Kana’s L I T face oil.

The Mysterious Certificate of Analysis for Kana’s L I T face oil.
This is where you can see the lot number.

When you get your bottle of L I T skincare, you’ll see a LOT number on the bottom of the bottle and the box. This is very perplexing because you literally have no place to put that information in order to see the COA. I contacted customer support for this and other information and received a confidential copy of the COA. Since CBD supplementation is so new and is non-regulated, it is the responsibility of each brand, in my opinion, to be as transparent as possible in their business practices, and with their products. The fact that we can not easily find the Certificate of Analysis, and that it is considered confidential seems very shady to me.

Encore Labs performed the testing for this particular COA, dated 11/4/19. The test results don’t have any Lot or Batch numbers, so I’m honestly not sure if this is these are the results of my product. From the test results, you do see that oil tests negative for THC (indicating a CBD isolate), as well as being negative for all other cannabinoids besides CBD.

What it is like to use Korean Skincare, L I T face oil by Kana Skincare

What it is like to use Korean Skincare, L I T face oil by Kana Skincare

I have been making my own face oils for almost 10 years now. It was partly to help control breakouts related to fluctuating hormones, and partly because I just didn’t love putting stuff all over my skin that I didn’t know anything about. Little did I know, the homemade oils I’ve been making are considered “Korean skincare.”

I received this product for the purposes of this review and I was super excited because I hadn’t tried any skincare products that also included CBD. Plus, I also don’t have much experience with a Korean line of products so I was excited to see what the fuss was about. I loved the idea of seeing what using cannabinoids would do when applied directly to my skin.

Let’s take a look at the L I T Packaging

Let’s take a look at the L I T Packaging

The L I T face oil comes in a pretty white box with L I T written vertically across the front. It just says HEMP FACE OIL on the bottom of the box with the brand, KANA written across the top. The bottom of the box is a UPC, with the ingredients listed on one side and a brief description of the benefits of the product on the other side. Interestingly, product does not tell you how much (if any) actual CBD is in it. On the ingredients list, it does list out cannabis sativa seed oil, which is basically a fancier way of saying hemp seed oil.

Hemp seed oil is NOT CBD oil. It is made from the seeds of the industrial hemp plant and does not have the cannabinoid profile of a mature hemp plant. It was very annoying to me that, if this is a CBD skincare product, then why did Kana Skincare go to such great lengths to hide the fact that CBD was in the product?

The first time I used L I T face oil by Kana

After I saw that coconut oil was the first ingredient, I was actually a little nervous to use this product since coconut oil can clog my pores. The directions on the bottle said to use 1-2 drops twice a day to help make your skin glow. The first time I used the product, I wanted to go easy because I didn’t want to break out, so I tried just the 1-2 drops thing. I put 2 bigger drops on my finger and that made it across my forehead and that was it. I tried a few more drops and that got one cheek/eye area. I ended up using between ¼-½ a dropper to cover just my face, not my neck.

I noticed right away my skin seemed to soak in the oil rather quickly. Again, I’ve been using face oils exclusively for almost a decade, so my skin loves the hydration of oils. This face oil was no different. Within 2-3 minutes, the oily residue was gone and all that was left was a slight glow on my cheeks and forehead. I liked it. I also put it on my children’s skin because the temperatures recently dropped and I noticed their skin was getting a bit dry. Within moments, the oil soaked right into their plump little cheeks. The next day, I didn’t wake up with a ton of breakouts, so that made me less cautious.

What it is like after three weeks using L I T by Kana once a day

What it is like after three weeks using L I T by Kana once a day

I have been using the L I T face oil on my face every morning for three weeks. Since this is a remarkably similar mix to what I make for myself (except I typically don’t include coconut oil), I can’t honestly tell you if it has made a remarkably huge difference over my own concoctions. I can tell you that I haven’t had any major breakouts, which is good, but I have more clogged pores/blackheads, and not just on my nose, which typically doesn’t happen for me. I have dealt with this by using facial scrubs more often and I busted out the old charcoal mask. I imagine that If coconut oil doesn’t bother your skin, you probably won’t notice anything.

The oil goes on smoothly, which is lovely. However, I definitely need more than 1-2 drops (even my children use more than that!). It’s usually about ⅓ of a dropper to get my face and ½ if I want to include my neck and chest. It takes about 2 minutes to totally absorb, but it can take a little more time if I am heaving handed with the oil and use more. After really exfoliating and or using a mask, I definitely have to use more.

Can a CBD Product Help with Chapped Lips?

After two minutes, my skin is left feeling soft and I have a slight glow for sure. Last week, I forgot to include my lips a few times, and wouldn’t you know, I started getting chapped lips (something I never have to deal with using face oils regularly.) I put the face oil on my lips as well and sure enough inside of two days, my lips stopped being chapped and I didn’t have to bother my husband for his chapstick anymore. I also noticed that when I put the oil on my son’s lips, it helped his chapped lips out a ton with just one use. (Man, I wish I had the same level of human growth hormones as a two-year-old sometimes!)

What you will love about the L I T Face oil by Kana

What you will love about the L I T Face oil by Kana

  • I love the way this product smells. With two types of lavender, rosemary, and frankincense oil (all of which have great benefits for the skin), every time you open the bottle you get a pleasant whiff of natural botanicals that immediately will lift your spirits.
  • The plethora of nut and seed oils. I usually mix argon, jojoba, grapeseed and/or almond oil with an occasional use of avocado oil for my daily routine. Having the extra hemp seed oil, macadamia nut oil and wheatgerm oil really does seem to add an extra moisturizing element to the face oil and I liked it.
  • CBD and Skincare just makes sense. I believe that CBD can help reduce inflammation and bring about recovery inside my body, so it makes sense it would do the same on the outside.

Do you want to know my biggest beef with Kana’s L I T hemp face oil?

I feel like this product preys on the consumer’s ignorance between hemp seed oil and CBD oil. We already talked about the difference in Hemp Seed Oil and CBD oil, but something else you should know is hemp seed oil is rich in essential fatty acids, which are great for the skin. However, if this product is marketed as containing CBD why do they go to such great lengths to conceal that information? Why do they make it so hard to tell if there is CBD in it and why is it so hard to see what the concentration of CBD in each bottle truly is? If you go through the trouble of digging deeper, you will see that the L I T does have CBD in it but at a very low concentration. You still have to pay for the premium formulation at a price point higher than similarly concentrated 30 ml bottles.

Here is a quick overview of the L I T face oil by Kana

Here is a quick overview of the L I T face oil by Kana

The L I T face oil is about average when considering it is a premium skincare product, and we women spend a mint looking for the Fountain of Youth. However, in a purely cost for CBD concentration, you definitely are paying more. The essential oils add a very pleasant botanical aroma that is a downright joy to apply. The oil absorbs quickly into your skin, leaving it looking radiant and feeling soft. I didn’t get bad breakouts using this product, but I also didn’t see amazing transformative results.

How is it mysterious if you obtained the COA already? Labs don’t usually have lot numbers and also, they are the first EU certified CBD brand from USA… every batch is tested.. no it’s not mysterious.

They also don’t prey on the difference between hemp seed and cbd if you are a fan or true reviewer you would see their stories and IG feed educations… ingredient shows hemp phytocannabinoid so that’s hemp cbd. Why does it have to say CBD on every CBD packaging? What happened to normalizing CBD products? It’s a super ingredient that should be used in all products of our daily lives.

And face oils are supposed to be dabbed on, pressed gently into skin, unlike soaking in body oils for a full on massage! Otherwise pores get clogged!
