CBD Brothers or The Original Alternative?
There’s a little bit of confusion surrounding the CBD Brothers brand. The company was founded in 2014 by Andrew Bayley. It quickly became a popular CBD product producer in the United Kingdom. Since 2014, the company went through some changes that weren’t clearly communicated to the public. Today, CBD Brothers sells its products under the corporation The Original Alternative. It offers many new and niche products. A nice surprise to some of you may be that customers can order online samples of the products. Since CBD oils are usually expensive, it may be worth trying the sample first, before making a huge purchase of CBD products. Also, the company’s certificates are available online, so you can see the lab test results before even purchasing the product.
When you see the range of products on the website, you’ll realize that the Original Alternative offers a very wide range of oils. Each edition is assigned a color (e.g., Purple Edition, Red Edition) that indicates which of the different hemp strains were used to manufacture the oil. The Original Alternative’s oils are available in various concentrations and bottle sizes.
All the company’s hemp is grown in Europe, which means that it is obligated to follow the EU safety standards in order to produce high-quality hemp-derived products. What may be an asset for CBD Brothers is the fact that it grows its hemp outdoors in natural sunlight. When the time is right, the plants are hand-picked, then they are separately hung until completely dry.
Purple Edition CBD Oil – what is it?
CBD Brothers Purple Edition Oil is extracted from cannabis plants grown organically under the Dutch sun. In a 10 ml bottle, you can find 2000 mg of cannabis whole plant extract. More than 16.4 percent of those cannabinoids is CBD. You can quickly calculate that a 10 ml bottle contains 320 mg of CBD. According to the manufacturer, each 10 ml bottle will provide 200 drops of CBD (1.6 ml per drop). If you would like your oil to last longer you can invest in a larger bottle, as this product is also available in 30 ml bottles.
In order to extract the cannabinoids, the manufacturer uses CO2 extraction. Successful separation of the full spectrum of terpenes, flavonoids, and other phytocannabinoids (alongside CBD) is conducted at cold temperatures.

What does the lab analysis report say?
All products offered by The Original Alternative are designed for the European market, so they contain less than 0.2 percent THC. Samples of products are tested by a third-party laboratory (Green Leaf Laboratory) and are made public on the company website. I’ve checked the lab analysis for my batch number: PO-025. It was very easy to do so since the lab results were published on the same page where I purchased the oil, even though I didn’t purchase directly from the producer but from another website. According to the analysis, my product contains 3.483 percent of CBD (it’s total amount so CBD and CBDA). It has also some small amounts of CBG-A (0.139 percent), CBC (1.7 percent). What is worth mentioning is that the product I’ve purchased contains trace amounts of THC (0.053 percent). It is almost an insignificant amount, so it doesn’t have any psychoactive effects. Out of curiosity, I decided to also check lab results for other batch numbers. Of course, there were tiny differences between batches, but in my opinion, they were insignificant. The CBD oil market is not very well regulated, but from my observation, it seems that CBD Brothers provides the correct amount of CBD on the packaging. Unfortunately, the test results for the cannabinoid content of each batch of oil were the only lab results available on the website (there wasn’t any report about heavy metal or pesticide presence).
On The Original Alternative website, the company makes the claim that its products are grown without the use of pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Unfortunately, there are no published analyses or certificates on the company’s websites that support that claim.
My experience with CBD Brothers Purple Edition CBD Oil
How does it look and feel like?
The Original Alternative (aka CBD Brothers) Purple Edition CBD Oil comes in a cardboard box. The first thing that I’ve noticed is that the name ‘CBD Brothers’ is nowhere to be found. Instead, it has ‘The Original Alternative’ logo. On the cardboard package, we can find information about ingredients, usage, storage, and dosage. On the other side of the box, there are four circles with letters inside them. At first, I wasn’t sure what all of the letters stand for. However, you can check the producer’s website in order to receive relevant information regarding the meaning of the abbreviations found on the cardboard box. I did that, and I was able to determine that my oil is made from hybrid plants grown under the sun, extracted through the CO2 extraction method, and there is 32 mg of CBD in 1 ml of the product.
I’m glad that you can find all of these facts on the packaging – even if it’s not immediately obvious the first time you see it – because there’s no additional information on the bottle. It has only one white sticker with ‘The Original Alternative’ logo and the name of the product, which is CBD Oil Purple Edition. There is nothing more. If you’re forgetful and you would fail to remember for example daily recommendation of use and your cardboard box would go missing, you may have a problem. Personally I think that it may be a little too minimalistic in design.
The CBD Oil Purple Edition bottle is dark, really dark. There is no way you could see the oil inside. Even if you hold it near the lamp it’s hard to assess the amount of oil that is left the bottle. This fact can make it hard to check how long your supply may still last.
Smell and taste of CBD Oil Purple Edition
CBD Oil Purple Edition has a typical hemp smell. The color of the oil is light brown. It has flowy consistency and a mild flavor. For me, the taste of the oil is acceptable, and it diminishes quickly. The bottle has a dropper, so you have to measure the dosage by counting drops. CBD Oil Purple Edition is designed for a sublingual application. According to the information provided by the producer, you should keep the product under the tongue for two minutes before swallowing. It’s recommended to take two to three drops once a day. The maximal daily dose is 200 mg of CBD.
Effects over time
The first time that I tried the product, I took the recommended amount. However, I knew that it may not be enough for me. It took approximately 30 minutes before I started to feel the effect of this product. After a few days of testing it, I’ve noticed that in my case it is better to take it earlier in the day in order to obtain a stronger effect. This oil didn’t make me more relaxed but rather more energized. That was a very nice surprise for me. However, I was forced to take way more than two to three drops to feel anything. Sadly, it required an excessive amount of The Original Alternative (earlier known as CBD Brothers) CBD Oil Purple Edition to truly experience any results.
What’s my opinion on The Original Alternative (aka CBD Brothers) CBD Oil Purple Edition?
I really enjoyed using The Original Alternative CBD Oil Purple Edition even though it’s not a very potent product. I liked that the manufacturer shares information about the cannabis strain used to make that product with its customers and also about how it was grown (in natural sunlight sun or under grow lamps). I was also happy that the lab test results were easy to access. The oil is easy to use and it doesn’t have a strong flavor. It works well and gives you expected results if you correctly personalize your dose.
Is The Original Alternative Purple Edition CBD Oil worth your money?
The Original Alternative (formerly known as CBD Brothers) Purple Edition CBD Oil is a good entry-level CBD product. It has a reasonable, mid-range price. You can save some money if you decide to purchase a bigger bottle. The Original Alternative offers a wide variety of CBD products that have different strengths, and this is their middle-price product. CBD Brothers Purple Edition CBD Oil seems like a good option for people who look for a CBD product with mild strength.
