Love Hemp: from tragedy to success
The company was formed by two London entrepreneurs, Tony Calamita and Tom Rowland, in 2015. The company uses extracts from ethically sourced hemp plants. However, the circumstances in which the idea of this brand was born is tragic. Tom Rowland, one of the co-founders of Love Hemp, decided to create the company, in memory of his father who passed away.
Love Hemp has become a leading wellness brand in the UK, offering a wide selection of products. Researchers work hard on new product development. Love Hemp also offers infused oils, sprays, chocolate, jelly domes, and beauty products – like this mask.
Love Hemp uses organic hemp grown in US soil in controlled conditions. Working directly with farmers allows Love Hemp to control the whole process. All of Love Hemp’s products are produced in GMP facilities and contain hemp extracts free from pesticides, herbicides or any other nasty chemicals. The company is trying to operate in a regulated way in a largely unregulated market.
CBD face mask
The Face Mask is infused with hemp oil and contains other plant extracts that help to hydrate and rejuvenate your skin. It is made with bio-cellulose, which means that the mask fabric can wrap your face very closely. That will prevent the active ingredients from evaporating away from your face.
The Love Hemp Face Mask is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which help your skin to retain moisture and stay hydrated. Thanks to the ‘second skin’ technology applied in this product all the active ingredients are able to penetrate your skin and provide their full benefit to you. Love Hemp promises extreme hydration and smoothing of lines and wrinkles.
Overall, your tired skin should regain a healthy glow. The mask is formulated without parabens, phthalates, animal products, mineral oil, artificial fragrances, artificial coloring, denatured alcohol, or benzophenone. Manufacturing takes place in Korea. Love Hemp has informed me that the masks are produced in Korea.

What do the lab reports say?
Some confusion surrounding lab testing
According to Love Hemp, all of its products are supplier, third-party (Botanacor Laboratories) and in-house laboratory tested. These lab reports are available to customers after sending an email request. As part of this review, I did send such an email, and I have received a certificate of analysis from a third-party laboratory, and also a certificate from the company’s internal analysis.
However, I cannot be sure whether the reports I received are actually the lab test results for my face mask. The internal report was prepared in March, but the third-party report has a very recent date (three weeks prior to purchase the face mask) and I presume that it would actually take a bit longer than a couple of weeks between testing the batches, processing them, manufacturing the product, transporting them to their retail and distribution locations, and actually selling them to me, their customer. Secondly, there is no batch number supplied on the packaging of the face mask, so it’s hard to prove which lab results apply to my face mask.

Unboxing the Face Mask
I was excited to try the Love Hemp Face Mask and had high expectations. The package is rather plain, but it does have all the important information on it. On the front, one of the first things I noticed was the Love Hemp logo. It’s a leaf with a heart at the center. At the back of the package, the manufacturer has placed general information about the product like a list of ingredients and instructions on how to apply the mask. There are also very useful icons that give you straightforward information about attributes of this product like, for example, that this face mask is vegan, cruelty-free, etc.
How to apply Love Hemp Face Mask?
In order to correctly apply the mask, I tried to follow the instructions given by Love Hemp. First, I thoroughly cleansed my face. For best results, the manufacturer encourages you to use toner before putting the mask on. When my skin was ready, I decided to tear the package and look inside. I found a two-piece face mask. One piece is for your forehead, nose, and cheeks. The second part is for your chin, upper lip, and the lower area of your cheeks. The mask doesn’t have any strong fragrance. You have to be careful when you’re taking the mask out of the package because the mask is quite moist. I recommend you apply it above the sink. You may expect that a little bit of fluid can remain inside the package, but you can always apply the rest with your fingers.
After unfolding the mask, I applied it to my face. In my case, it was quite easy, but I can imagine that it can be a bit messy since the mask is, frankly, soggy. My hands were all wet. I tried to pay attention to correctly smooth it on my face. The mask is designed to wrap around the skin; however, there were areas where it looked like it doesn’t stick too well (like the area between my eyes). Nonetheless, I think that it created a decent barrier that kept the active ingredients close to my skin (that allows deeper penetration of all elements of the mask). The face mask stuck to my skin well. I could talk and walk while having it on my face without too much difficulty. It didn’t drop any liquid on the floor while I wore it. In my opinion, the mask is soft, breathable, and comfortable.
First effects of Love Hemp Face Mask
After 30 minutes I removed the mask. I followed the instructions and gently massaged the remaining serum into my face and neck. I also patted the excess serum onto the back of my hands. It’s best to give it a few minutes to really sink in your skin because at first, it will feel a bit sticky. To my surprise, my skin didn’t react to it. Usually, after wearing face masks my skin gets slightly worse before actually getting better.
Usually when I remove the face mask my skin is red and only after a couple of minutes, the irritation goes down. In this case, I haven’t noticed any signs of skin irritation. At the beginning my skin was dewy, but after all the serum was fully absorbed my skin felt very smooth. Even after two to three hours after removing the mask I still touched it with my hand from time to time, because it felt pleasantly soft.
The day after
I enjoyed applying and wearing the mask. I haven’t noticed any negative consequences right after taking the mask off, however, there was still a chance that my skin would break out the day after. Fortunately, nothing like this has happened. My skin returned to normal right away. I haven’t got any new pimples on my face on the following days. I have noticed that for the next two days, I didn’t get any dry patches on my skin (I sometimes have dry skin around my nose). The manufacturer encourages you to use the face mask two to three times a week, but unfortunately, one package contains only one mask which is not reusable. That’s a shame because I believe that my face would glow up even more if I would use that mask more often.
Value for money
I was very excited to try this product; however, I was less thrilled to pay for it. Let’s be honest, the Love Hemp face mask is a tiny luxury that you can really enjoy once in a while. It would be difficult for most of us to incorporate it into a regular skincare routine. There are probably many other cheaper face masks that can hydrate and soothe your skin as well as this one. But for people with sensitive skin, it may be worth investing in this particular Face Mask. Overall I think that the product is a bit pricey, but at the same time, it can be a great and a bit of a luxury gift for somebody who appreciates less common skincare products.
